In Art, students learn to express their thoughts through a series of skill-building projects that evoke imagination and observation. Students acquire understanding and facility with art elements, principles and media. Using paint, pencil, pastel and clay, students learn to make and read art as a language reflecting time, place, community, culture and identity. Students are inspired to explore the rich connections between thinking and learning. As art nurtures and enriches mind in its becoming, students learn to surrender to the unanticipated possibilities of their work as it unfolds and discover their way of being in and acting upon the world.

At Laidlaw School, all grade 5/6 classes receive art classes instructed by an Art Teacher specialist three times a 6 day cycle. In grade 7/8, students are given the option to continue to take Art classes or select our Band program.
