French

The goal of the French communication and culture course is to help the students to communicate and describe their daily life activities, introduce themselves, expose and explore the francophone culture everywhere around them in Manitoba, in Canada, and in the world.

At Laidlaw School, we try to achieve this goal by using pedagogical games, technology and oral activities.  Technology based games such as “Kahoot” allow the students to enjoy their learning experience while increasing their vocabulary and skill. In our program, we use role plays and dialogues so the students can improve their speaking and communication skills. We listen to French music and watch French video materials to improve their listening skills. We guide the students to explore the francophone culture by introducing the famous festivals, authentic food, traditions and history.

At the grade 5/6 level, students are being instructed using the AIM approach (Accelerated Integrated Methodology).

AIM incorporates gestural techniques, storytelling, and a focus on active, interactive and authentic speaking and writing skills.
This approach accelerates language acquisition and makes the learning process enjoyable and memorable.
