Art

Art provides in-depth experiences in a variety of media and connections to art history, cultures and artists as well as a vocabulary and foundation for students to discuss and evaluate their own, along with peer work, in a supportive atmosphere. Students will explore media that may include painting, collage, sculpture, fiber, book arts, drawing, cartooning, clay, and print making.  Some art projects will be self-directed, fueled by the students’ own interests with research in art history, cultures, and contemporary art. Students will develop an ability to talk about their work and the work of others in classroom critiques. 

Graphic Arts

Designers practice the design process in order to find solutions to the visual problems they take on. In the Graphic Arts program, students will learn and practice design thinking and the design process. They will be learning drafting, silk screening, and airbrushing techniques in an industrial arts workshop. Students will explore media that may include painting, collage, sculpture, fiber, book arts, drawing, cartooning, clay, and print making.  Some art projects will be self-directed, fueled by the students’ own interests with research in art history, cultures, and contemporary art. Students will develop an ability to talk about their work and the work of others in classroom critiques. Becoming an ensemble is a creative and exciting way to collaborate with others. Drama is the perfect way to explore this and learn some lifelong strategies. Throughout the term students build self-awareness, respect and a willingness to help one another. They will learn to block, create characters and free themselves from stage fright in a fun and playful way.
