Physical Education
Whyte Ridge School has a unique Early Years focus on our Physical Education
program. The activities are planned for the Early Years participants and their
skill development. We have a fantastic team of Physical Education Specialists
who deliver an outstanding program.
Our Physical Education program
reinforces fair play, respect, sportsmanship and cooperation by encouraging all
of our students to participate in our programs. Our class atmosphere is very
special as we have a balance of team (basketball, volleyball, handball, lacrosse
and soccer, flag football, etc.) and individual activities (badminton, dance,
cross-country skiing, bowling, judo, skipping, juggling, track and field and
squash).
The students at Whyte Ridge have an extensive lunch hour
intramural program involving 90% of the grade 3 and 4 students. Students are
able to referee, be captains, be leaders, set up and organize the activities
such as flag football, soccer, beach volleyball, juggling, dance club. Many
grade 3 and 4 students participate in Run Club throughout the year with things
culminating with the Run at the Ridge every Spring.
Our Physical
Education program is progressive and unique for many reasons. We have developed
a comprehensive cross-country skiing program and as we have a ski hill on our
school ground, we are also able to instruct downhill skiing techniques. We also
have an extensive dance component in our curriculum, which ends with the grand
finale of Dance in the Park held at our school in June.
