In Honour of Stu Nixon
It’s with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Pembina Trails School Division Board Trustee Stu Nixon.
Stu joined the Board of Trustees in 2022 after retiring from his 35-year teaching career. He spent the last 20 years at Oak Park High School where he ran a highly successful football program. Many of Stu's student athletes achieved football scholarships to colleges and universities throughout North America. In addition, numerous players including Andrew Harris, Brady Olivera, and Nic Demski have gone on to star in the CFL with the hometown Blue Bombers.
Stu believed in engaging students as learners by helping them feel connected to their school community. A resident of Charleswood for over 20 years, both of Stu’s daughters attended and graduated from schools in Pembina Trails.
Although his time as a school trustee was far too short, Stu made a difference by collaborating with his colleagues both on the board and in senior administration to help sustain a welcoming culture and safe environment promoting diversity and inclusion for all students, staff and the community. His work on the board included Chair of the Human Resources and Policy committee and the Pembina Trails Educational Support Fund Inc..
Our thoughts are with Stu’s family, loved ones, and all those whose lives were touched by his presence.
The funeral service for Stu will be held at Oasis Church, 940 Elmhurst Road, Winnipeg, Manitoba on Thursday, June 5 at 1:00 p.m. All are welcome to attend.
