Winning Team Announced for 2025 Manitoba Envirothon Provincial Competition.

Winnipeg, Manitoba, May 29, 2025 – The Manitoba Association of Watersheds (MAW) is proud to announce the winning team of the 2025 Manitoba Envirothon Provincial Competition, held May 22-24 at Camp Arnes, Manitoba. After months of preparation and an intensive competition weekend, Team Terra from Shaftesbury High School in Winnipeg has emerged as this year’s provincial champion.

Team Terra will be competing at the 2025 National Conservation Foundation Envirothon, competing against regional champions from across Canada and the United States.

“Shaftesbury is extremely excited to be representing Manitoba at the NCF Envirothon competition this coming July. The dedication, knowledge, creativity and teamwork displayed by all teams is not only impressive but also reassuring to be part of a program promoting application of science theory to real world issues. The students are our future, and this investment will pay off not only today, but for future generations.” – Larry Solomon, Teacher, Shaftesbury High School

Now in its 28th year, the Manitoba Envirothon continues to be a leading environmental education initiative for high school students, challenging participants to demonstrate their knowledge in five key areas: Aquatic Ecology, Wildlife Ecology, Plants & Forests, Soils & Land Use, and this year’s theme - Invasive Species.

The Provincial Competition brought together top-performing teams from regional competitions across Manitoba to showcase their environmental knowledge, critical thinking, and teamwork through hands-on field testing and presentations.

"Hosting the Manitoba Envirothon is a true privilege for our organization. Every year we are blown away by the enthusiasm, commitment and knowledge that these high school students bring to the competition. Congratulations to the winning team and best of luck to them as they represent Manitoba at the National Conservation Foundation Envirothon this summer!” - Lynda Nicol, Executive Director, Manitoba Association of Watersheds.

The Manitoba Association of Watersheds extends sincere congratulations to all participants for their dedication and enthusiasm throughout the Envirothon season. The energy, curiosity, and commitment displayed by these students reaffirm the power and importance of environmental education.
