Celebrating the second annual Round Dance

This year, Arthur A Leach, École Bonnycastle School, and Fort Richmond Collegiate alongside Makoon Transition Inc. celebrated their second annual Round Dance led by their MC Kyle Copenace and Stick Man Alex Copenace both from Naotkamegwanning (Whitefish Bay) First Nation.

Over 300 people came to celebrate relationship, connection, and community dancing to songs led by Preston Cleveland, Tyson Henry, Frank Daniels Jr., and Sage Smith. Glenna Henderson (Cook’em Daisey) spoke for the food, and Elder Winston spoke for the give-a-way items which were generously donated by Wa-Say Healing Centre. Manitoba Teachers Society, and Paragon Living.

Thank you to all our families Makoon Staff and Teachers; Jackie Connell, Assistant Deputy Minister of Indigenous Excellence in Education; Sarah Gazan, Director of Indigenous Excellence in Education; Pembina Trails Board Chair Cindy Nachtigall; Ward 3 Trustees Alicia Becker and Jasmine Brar; and Pembina Trails School Division Senior Admin team Shelley Amos, Collen Roberts, and Troy Scott for attending.

A special thank you to the talented Robyn Shapiro Photography for capturing the evening with the beautiful images below!
